I helped people which needed our help by doing lawn work and cleaning houses. I also proselyied with another missionary for the full seven weeks.
3. Please describe any extracurricular activities you have been involved with.
I was the Information Systems Representative for my class during my second Trimester at Parker University. I also was a member of the Philosophy club during my first and second trimester at Parker University. At Brigham Young University, I was a member of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club for about two years. At Spokane Community College, I was a member of the Shut Up and Sign club for two quarters and SCC Players for a quarter.
4. Why have you chosen to apply to University of Western States?*
First, it eight hours away from Spokane, WA which is home for me. Secondly, I know that Western States has a completely different philosophy from Parker University. I want to become a doctor who specializes in chiropractic. I believe that at Western States, I can achieve that goal better at Parker University.
5. Please write any additional information you would like the Admissions Committee to know when considering your application.
With this question, I didn't answer because I don't have to and cannot think of anything that they need to know.
6. Why have you chosen a career as a chiropractic physician?*
I want a healthcare career that I can work with my hands. I like how I can restore the range of motion to a joint where it was restricted beforehand. B.J. Palmer said, "Life is motion, motion is life. Lack of motion is death." I believe that if one has free unrestricted motion in all one's movable joints in the body, some aspect of one's life will improve. It is hard to pin point what will heal in a person because of all the variables. I know that chiropractors can catch pathology through proper diagnostic testing such as the use of radiographs. I know that chiropractors can really help with the management of back and neck pain. I want to heal and help people achieve optimal health.
7. What specific experiences have you had with chiropractic health care?*
I first started getting adjusted by a chiropractor when I was going to Spokane Community College. He is a chiropractor who practices with Applied Kinesiology. He is a vitalistic who believes that he can find subluxations through surrogate testing himself. I was really impressed because I thought that he improved my balance. When I went to Brigham Young University, I met a Parker graduate who took me to a Parker Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was really impressed with the seminar because of all different classes one can take, the amount of chiropractors under a single roof, and the amount different companies which wanted to sell chiropractors their products. I was exposed to more of the vitalistic philosophy and different adjusting techniques and styles. I met and felt really comfortable with Dr. Mancini who is the president of Parker University. Thus, I went and am studying at Parker University to become a chiropractor.
Along my journey, I have become unhappy with the vitalistic philosophy in Parker University. I don't believe that the body has the power to heal anything and everything under the sun just by getting adjusted. Last trimester, I took Diversified which focuses on the quality of the motion of each joint in the spine. I like the philosophy where we have dynamic listings instead of focusing on static listings and "bone home" type of techniques. When getting personally adjusted, I liked getting "popped" and where I can feel the bones move. I know other techniques like activator can help too, but I prefer diversified.
8. What type of practice do you envision for the future?* (i.e. multi disciplinary clinic, independent, overseas, sports, pediatric, ethnic community, etc.)
The main areas that I want to focus on are sports, pediatric, and neurology. The type of sports that I want to focus on are skiing and martial arts. Since I am a woman and will have kids one day, I figured that I should learn how to adjust babies, kids, and teenagers. I am planning on getting a diplomate in chiropractic neurology through the Carrick Institute when I graduate from chiropractic college.
